QT: Luke 3

John the Baptist preaches; Jesus is baptized.

Luke 3:16 - John answered and said to them all, "As for me, I baptize you with water; but One is coming who is mightier than I, and I am not fit to untie the thong of His sandals; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire."

Also, Genealogy of Christ:

Jesus, son of Joseph, son of Eli .... all the way up to Jacob, son of Isaac, son of Abraham.... all the way up Seth, son of Adam, son of God.

Pretty crazy.

I wanted to comment about an interesting tidbit I learned during service a while ago (I had to bring out my old notes on this to verify and not tell you incorrect information).

Regarding the genealogy of Christ, in Matthew when the list is given in the first chapter (I haven't read all the books in the Bible so I don't know if other books also have the genealogy), there are only four women listed: Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, and the wife of Uriah. Usually women are not listed at all in the genealogy so why are they chosen? These women are not Jews and each have some scandalous element to each of them. This reveals to us that God forgives and that God's love is wide and deep.

There is more I could say on this but my notes are a little disjointed. If I can find the original mp3 sermon I will send it your way =)

Just wanted to add another note (forgot to write this) that of course, the genealogy is most important because it proves Christ's birthright but it can also tell us more than just a "laundry list" of names. =)
